Ley lines
The Weave in the world is called by some "Dragonblood" or "Heart'sblood" - and these names come from the way magical power settles in Ley Lines, broad rivers of magic that flow through the undercroft and bleed power into the surrounding world. Make no mistake - a ley line is not some theoretical construct; dig deep enough and they are visible as great rivers of unbridled, incomprehensible magic that flow in a great rush.
Tapping a ley line directly requires physical contact - already an extremely dangerous proposition - but it can truly empower spells. More importantly, however, Ley Line Nexuses - areas where two or more ley lines cross - are natural 'holy places', sacred to the Great Mother, where magical power comes easy and the veils between worlds are thin. The more leylines in a given nexus? The more powerful the effect.
Charting ley lines is an ongoing initiative of the Rabbits, Rats, and the Holy Dragon Empire.
